Getting a Gate Quote in Singapore: What to Prepare Before Your Site Survey

Disclaimer: Measurements in this guide are for reference only. STEELDIOS will always conduct a professional site survey before fabrication to confirm final dimensions.

Do You Really Need to Measure Your Own Opening?

Not at all — STEELDIOS will conduct a free professional site survey before any fabrication begins to confirm all final dimensions. You don't need to be precise.

That said, a rough measurement is useful for one reason: it helps us give you a ballpark quote faster, without needing to schedule a site visit first. One reading of the width and height is all we need at this stage.

This guide applies to all STEELDIOS products — including HDB and condo gates, landed driveway gates, aluminium glass doors, and glass partitions.

Quick Self-Measurement Guide (For Quoting Purposes Only)

You just need a measuring tape and your phone to take a photo.

  1. Width: Measure once across the middle of the opening, between the inner edges of the frame.
  2. Height: Measure once from the floor to the underside of the top frame.
  3. Take a photo of the opening from the front — this helps us understand the configuration at a glance.

Send these to us via WhatsApp or our contact form and we can provide an indicative quote right away.

For Landed Driveway Gates

Driveway gate openings are larger and have a few extra things to note:

  1. Width: Measure the clear opening between the two gate posts (or between the wall and post for a single-leaf gate).
  2. Height: Measure from the ground to the underside of any overhead beam or lintel. If there is no overhead structure, note your desired gate height.
  3. Gate motor run-back (for automated sliding gates): Measure the available space alongside the driveway wall where the gate will slide open. You need at least the full gate width plus 300–500mm clearance for the motor and end stop.
  4. Take photos of the opening from the front and the side, including the gate posts and surrounding wall.

One rough reading per dimension is sufficient for an initial quote. We'll confirm everything during the site survey.

For Aluminium Glass Doors and Partitions

The same approach applies for aluminium glass door and partition installations:

  1. Width: Measure the clear opening width once at mid-height.
  2. Height: Measure the clear opening height once at mid-width.
  3. Note the opening type: Is it a swing door, sliding door, fixed panel, or full partition wall? Let us know so we can advise on the right product.
  4. Take photos of the space from the front and the side — including any existing frames, walls, or ceiling tracks if present.

For partitions spanning a larger area, a rough overall width and height of the space is sufficient for quoting. We'll measure in detail during the site survey.

Before We Come for the Final Site Survey: What to Tell Us

When we come to do the final measurement before fabrication, please let us know upfront if any of the following apply — you don't need to figure out the impact yourself, just flag it and we'll advise:

Flooring Changes

If you are changing your floor tiles or adding new flooring, let us know when booking the site survey. We'll time the visit accordingly or account for the finished floor thickness in our measurements.

New Door or Door Frame

Whether a door change affects your gate depends on your flat type:

  • Older HDB flats (close-coupled configuration): The door frame and gate frame are connected. If you are replacing your door or frame, we need to measure after the new door and frame are installed.
  • Newer HDB flats (separate frame, ~4ft × 7ft opening): The gate frame and door frame are independent. Changing your door generally does not affect the gate opening — unless you are changing to a different door size, which may affect the side panel of the gate. Either way, just let us know and we'll check.
  • New build or full renovation: The main door is typically a custom metal plate door. Door and gate are planned and fabricated together for a coordinated finish — let us know if this applies to you.

Digital Lock Installation

A digital lock can be retrofitted to a gate after fabrication, but it won't look as clean. The proper way is to plan it upfront — the gate is then fabricated with a custom metal plate panel between the locks, creating a neat, integrated finish that looks purpose-built rather than added on.

If you're planning a digital lock, confirm the model before we proceed so we can design the gate around it from the start.

Not sure if your renovation is at the right stage? Just let us know your situation and we'll advise on the best time to schedule the site survey.
